Plantation is a city in Broward County, Florida, located directly west of Fort Lauderdale within the Miami–Fort Lauderdale metropolitan area. Incorporated in April 1953, the city covers about 22.8 square miles and has grown to roughly 100,000 residents, making it one of Broward County's larger and more established communities. Its name and early development reflect a deliberate post-war effort to create a planned, landscaped suburban community, and that legacy of tree-lined streets and green space still defines its character today.
The city is governed by a strong mayor and a five-member city council, with a long-standing civic emphasis on neighborhood improvement, business district redevelopment, and parkland.
