Davenport is a city in northeastern Polk County, Florida, set in the Four Corners region where Polk, Osceola, Lake, and Orange counties come together. Its modern history began in the 1880s, when the South Florida Railroad was extended to this point and a small agricultural town took shape around the tracks. For most of the twentieth century, Davenport remained a quiet Central Florida community — close to the citrus groves and small towns of the Ridge country, and far from the tourism economy that would later transform the region.
