Sanford is a city in, and the county seat of, Seminole County, Florida, located in Central Florida on the southern shore of Lake Monroe at the headwaters of the St. Johns River. Known as the "Historic Waterfront Gateway City," Sanford had a population of about 61,000 at the 2020 census and sits at the northern end of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford metropolitan area. The city's identity is rooted in its lakefront location and its well-preserved historic core.
